Hello my name is Rae Wilcoxson! A little bit about me, I am an IU Contemporary dance major, am studying pre-Med, and have a Spanish minor. I love my two dogs, art, and being outdoors!
My piece stems from my habitual life of stress and constantly being busy. It dives into the idea of remembering to take time for yourself. My dancer (Nell Ritchey) and I, used a collaborative process as we are both showcased in the piece. This proved tricky as it was difficult to see the dance as a whole whilst being in it. We videotaped ourselves during rehearsal to get a picture of what we were creating. We also did not have mirrors in our rehearsal space so we only had each other to feed off of and learn from. This aided in creating more connected and detailed movement. We used specific examples from our everyday routine to inspire these phrases.
For the filming process, we took one weekend to film the entire piece indoors as well as around campus. While I was editing I decide to mash together the two sceneries as a symbol for work versus leisure time.
I am thankful for such a motivated dancer and great support team in my creative process especially during this unique semester. I cannot wait for the show to debut! You all are in for a treat :)
